When we look at presenting a speech it can be helpful to see just where different techniques and features are present in our mahi.
Below is an example of a speech intro showing where the author has intentionally used different language features to create an engaging piece of writing.
Under that is the same speech text but showing all the different parts where the presenter is intentionally using different presentation techniques such as:
(a) varying your volume, tone, pace, or stress to emphasise a point or to gain or hold attention
(b) pause for dramatic effect or emphasis
(c) eye contact to engage and hold your audience’s attention
(d) gesture, movement and facial expression that support and emphasise your content
(e) stance that is appropriate for a speaker in a formal situation (f) using props, costume or demonstration materials.
