This is the assessment document of AS 3.1 that we will be covering this term.
We will undergo a series of scaffolded tasks to build you up to the point of completing and submitting this assessment.
Step One: Read through the assessment document above.
Matua Sam will take you through this in class time to answer any questions.
Step Two: Write down all the physical activities you have been involved in so far in your life
Step Three: Factors influencing participation
One thing that is helpful for us to recognise is that there are always different factors at work that influence our participation in physical activity. These include, but are not limited to: Social, Environmental, Historical, Economic and Psychological/Emotional.
What do each of these mean and how could they influence our participation in physical activity?
For each of the factors above, come up with as many reasons as possible that this could be a 'positive' influence on your ability to be active.
Once you have done this, do the same for 'negative' influences as well.
Step Four: Assumptions and stereotype's
Another major influence on our physical activity is the different assumptions and stereotype's that we face through either joining in or opting out of the different activities. For the following sports and activities, what steroetypes come to mind?
Football - Rugby - Netball - Basketball - Biking to School - Running - Golf - Horse Riding
Step Five: What the research says
It's important that we also look at what research says around participation rates for young people across the country and also the world.
Take a look at the following links and then write a reflection about this research and what this means. Does your own experience line up with what the research says? Why/why not?

Step Six: Relating to our lives
Now we know a bit more about things that influence our participation we now need to start looking directly at our own personal experiences.
Pick the top 2 or 3 activities you have been involved in, growing up. For these, explain the main factors that have influenced your participation in these activities. Have these been positive influences? Negative influences? Explain your answer fully.
