Reading/ Language Arts

Activity #1 This activity will help your child to be able to say their letter sounds quickly.

1. Write all 26 lower case letters on sticky notes or small pieces of paper.

2. Review all of the sounds with your child. Provide extra practice on the ones they are not quick to name.

3. Stick them to the wall in a random scattered order.

4. Same the name of a sound. Your child can choose from one of the following options:

• Shine a flashlight on that sound.

• Hit that sound with a nerf gun.

• Hit that sound with a fly swatter.

• Throw a paper ball at that sound.

Activity #2 Read, read, read! Children LOVE to have stories read to them! Here are some activities you can do with your child during and after reading:

1. Search for known letters and words in books. The sight words introduced so far this year are: I, a, can, see, we, to, like.

2. Discuss the characters and setting of the book.

3. Respond to the book by drawing and telling about your favorite page or favorite character. Did you like the book? Why or why not? How did the book make your feel?

4. Have your parents take a video of you retelling what the book was about!

Math

Activity #1 This activity will help your child correctly count groups of objects and practice writing numbers.

1. Search for collections of things in your house.

2. On a piece of paper write the number that matches how many objects are in each group.

3. Put your collections in order from least to greatest.

4. Some questions to ask yourself. How many would I have in my collection if I added one more? Two more? Took 1 away? Took 2 away?

5. Here are items you could collect and sort:

• Rocks

• Silverware

• Coins

• Legos

• Fruit Loops or other kinds of cereal.

Activity #2 This activity will help your child to correctly identify numbers. Have your child go on a "number hunt" in your kitchen pantry. Have him/her identify the different numbers they see on the packaging. They can write down the numbers they find. Can they find all of the numbers from 0-10?
