I Spy With My Little Eye (game - using a deck of cards with King/Queen/ Jacks removed)

1.) The cards are dealt face up in an array (ex: 10 x 4)

2.) The first player challenges the second player to find two numbers next to each other (vertical/horizontal) that make a sum of a given number.

3.)The first player says "I spy with my little eye a sum of ______.

4.) The second player looks for any two cards next to each other that makes that sum.

5.) When they are done- they say "done"-- if they missed any cards the first player can steal those & keep them.

6.) Now, it's the second players turn to say "I spy... with a sum of ____."

7.) Player 1 looks for those cards & says "done" when they are finished.

8.) Player 2 can steal any they missed.

Science

Experiments with a glass of water 1. Write the word MAY on a piece of paper. Place it standing up against a wall. Place a clear glass in front of it. Pour water into the glass while you keep your eyes on the word MAY. Presto! You now have a new word. 2. Place a pencil into the glass of water. It now looks broken. 3. Place an object behind the glass of water. The water magnifies the object. 4. Hold a glass of water in front of a window when the sun is shining. Hold a sheet of white paper a few inches under the glass where the light goes through the glass and hits the paper. Can you make a rainbow? 5. Over the sink fill the glass to the top with water. Place a heavy piece of paper over the top. Holding the paper firmly in place quickly turn the glass upside down. Remove your hand from the paper and the water should stay inside the glass. Why are all of these events happening? Research to find the answers.

Needs VS. Wants

We know we need certain things to keep us safe and healthy. Food, clothes, and shelter are all things we need. I love chips and they are a food but are they a need or a want? How do people decide if something is a need or if something is a want? Take a few minutes to watch 2 videos. The first video is about those shoes. After watching it decide if the shoes are a need or a want. How did the boy decide? The second video is about a pair of ice skates. Did the ice skates turn out to be a need or a want? How do you know? After you have watched both videos ask someone to help you find a grocery ad. Look through it and find things that are needs and things that are wants. Make sure it is ok to use scissors to cut out the things that are needs and wants. Glue the pictures of things that are wants on one half of a blank piece of paper and the things that are needs on the other half of the paper. If you can't cut out the pictures just draw the things that are needs on one side and things that are wants on the other side.
