Social media is becoming an increasingly important part of journalism and engagement with your audience. For The Charger and The Charger Online, my associate editors and I run an Instagram account to promote our newspaper. I make it a priority to promote both our print and online stories, broadcast episodes, and podcast episodes.
Our Instagram account, @thechargeronline, promotes all things journalism related. Not only do we post about our newspaper articles, we also promote broadcasts, podcasts, and post about fun newspaper events such as our Secret Santa party and "Newsgiving".
On distribution day, we post an announcement on our Instagram account to promote that month's issue of the newspaper. We also post the locations that we distribute to so that anyone can go pick up a paper.
After each month's issue of the newspaper is released, I upload all stories to The Charger Online. After uploading all stories, I make a post on The Charger Online Instagram to ensure that our audience is aware of the updated stories and engages with our website as well.
The Charger Online is our online edition of The Charger. As the online editor, I work to make sure that our online edition stays up to date with all of our latest print stories, as well as stories that are reported between monthly editions. In this past year specifically, I have revamped the entire website with new color schemes, layouts, and more. This new design along with promotion from our Instagram account, @thechargeronline, has helped our online audience engagement increase significantly. The pictures below display the updated version of The Charger Online.
Staff Profiles
On The Charger Online, there is a page dedicated to our current staff and staffs from past years. It is extremely important that each member of our team is recognized and credited for their hard work. On this page, there is a picture of each member followed by their name, position on our staff, and a small paragraph about themselves. If their staff profile is clicked on, there are links to all of the articles, broadcasts, designs, photography galleries, and more that they have contributed to as a member of The Charger.
