This assignment was a 1500-word essay that explored the increase in young voter participation in 2022 midterm elections. In this assignment, we were to explain why the increase in young voter participation was important and how this further reshaped and affected the political climate. As students, we've always taught the importance of voting and how it's affected the very country we live in and with this assignment it allowed us to explore different aspects of voting that ties into us specifically because by researching for this assignment we learned why people our age have chosen not to vote in the past and why that has changed. This assignment is one that I believe I could improve on because of certain writing mistakes that I made as I was writing. Through this paper I realized that there are many different ways that I could improve my writing, grammar and the way I introduce research into my writing. While I did get a decent score on this assignment, there are many mistakes and errors that I now realize and am working towards improving.
This assignment was one that explored the past of the United States, specifically the Articles of Confederation and it's flaws and weaknesses. During this time period the US was suffering greatly and the Articles of Confederation was at the core of these issues as it put the country in economic depression and made the US unable to pay public debts. To add onto these issues, the federal government was incredibly weak under the Articles of Confederation and didn't have the power to impose national taxes or force states to provide funds despite the huge debt. Madison came up with solutions to counter these problems and a key factor was his federal negative that gave Congress the ability to veto any law however this solution wasn't quickly accepted as there was backlash from different states. Madison's solution set the foundation for the currently enacted constitution and by understanding these concepts along with others I was able to grasp to be successful on this assignment.
This assignment was a project for this year's black history month theme--resistance. In this assignment we were given a list of options to show how African Americans have resisted historic and ongoing oppression in all forms and I chose the option to research a famous African American who has shown Black Resistance and write a 1-2 page paper about that individual. For this assignment, I chose Malcolm X and wrote about the actions he has taken for the African American community that show him standing up to oppression. This wasn't one of my best assignments as there were many improvements that could have been made in my grammar and writing technique. Also, I could have been more clear and concise when it came to my sentences and my break down of what I was trying to explain. Furthermore I was also shown that my writing didn't target the prompt but rather was more like a biography. Overall this assignment showed me that I still have a long way to go in terms of writing and there are many improvements that I need to make in order for me to become a better writer.
This assignment examined the arguments for and against women participating in the abolitionist movement and its connection to the early women’s rights movement. During this time period, women were expected to stick to the traditional role of being housewives and nothing more but when the abolitionist movement began some women began to support them and question slavery and their current treatment. This caused a shift in society as men wanted women to go back to traditional roles however there was an increase in women speaking and while this change was occurring some women were wanted to stick to traditional roles and this caused a divide between women. This assignment explored the arguments over different beliefs on women roles in society specifically on how they could interact with the abolition movement. I enjoyed this topic and the way we were able to see different perspectives which allowed for me to do better than I expected as my writing and grammar had improved in the final prompt of this assignment.
