This assignment was a research presentation me and my had to make about an events that occurred during the 1940's and 50's. Me and my group were assigned to do research on the The Civil Rights Movement and key figures during the movement.. From this assignment I learned about the various issues that African Americans faced but along with this I also learned how they fought against and overcame it. However despite the things I learned about the Civil Rights Movement, I also learned about how I could improve my writing and collaboration with others since this was a group assignment. This assignment challenged us by forcing us to work with other and collaborate in a way we haven't really done before. And I chose this assignment because while it wasn't my best work, it allows me to see what I could improve.
This assignment was based on events that occurred in the book, "A Raisin in Sun" and the purpose of this assignment was to determine whether or not the family in the book should make a decision. We had begun the school year reading this book and understanding why certain things happened specifically in this time period. This assignment challenged me by forcing me to learn how to be concise with my words and not dragging my words out. I chose this assignment because it serves as a progress report to show how I've grown from last year in terms of writing and understanding different characters' and their issues.
The purpose of this assignment was the pick a song and analyze it using one of the Big Six Skills for analyzing poetry that we discussed in class. The objective of this assignment was to write an essay detailing how Lorraine Hansberry develops a character of our choice. Prior to this we had read the book ¨A Raisin in the Sun¨ that was based on a family during the 1950´s. The family is going through a rough time but encounter difficulties even after they gain money which further divides the family. When writing my essay I had to essentially describe how Walter, the character I chose changed over the course of the book. I believe I could have done better when writing my essay as there were certain aspects that could have been improve both in grammar and the information I included. In conclusion while not being my best project it allowed me to grow and learn how to be better writer while gaining information on the lives of African American families during that time period.
Every year Time Magazine honors a person, group, organization, or object, deemed the Time Person of the Year. While the magazine has been heavily criticized for previously naming controversial figures such as Hitler in 1938 as the Person of the Year in the past. Time has defended their choices by stating that the criteria for the position is “the person or persons who most affected the news and our lives, for good or ill." By emulating the same thing we had to choose a person or an event that we believed should be the person of the year for 2023 regardless of whether or not it's good. We had to give background information and three claims for why our decision should be person of the year. I enjoyed this assignment as it didn't have to be something everybody agreed with. Instead it could just be something we thought affected us the most.
We began reading Macbeth and due to the play being written in Shakespearean times it was a bit hard to understand so to ensure we knew what we were doing and have a bit of fun we had to pick a scene between the one's we've read, translate it in English and act it out. We were also allowed to add things like an aside or soliloquy in order to deepen the scene of our choice. While this was a fun assignment, my group struggled with acting out the scene because we were a bit shy. Regardless it helped us improve on our public speaking which we would need for the next marking period.
For this assignment we had to create a veideo like a tiktok to form a trend and advocate for a specific issue that affects today's society. My group struggled at first in coming up with the idea however after careful thought and planning we were able to create a video that included everybody. This assignment was fun and helped work on my fear of presenting in front of other along with my presentation skills.
After completing our reading of Macbeth, we had three options to chose from for our final essay and I chose to explain the power of words in Shakespeare’s Macbeth and how they influence the protagonist’s fate. By choosing this prompt I was able to show the power of words not only in Macbeth but also how they affect our own personal lives. I was able to research how words can impact people on a biological learn and learn so much. However this essay showed I can improve on my writing by writing more concisely.
