The ecosystem model was one of my favorite assignments this marking period because it was filled with all the research we as a class have done throughout the marking period. Through this assignment I learned that ecosystems aren't just based off one animal or or particular species but instead they are based off the relationships and interactions between different species. Along with the relationships and interactions are the different niches/roles organisms occupy that allow the ecosystem to function and flow properly. I enjoyed this assignment because it was interactive and forced us to really consider the bigger picture not just one species or one organism. While this assignment was successful one thing I would improve is our break down of the text and information we included.
I enjoyed this experiment because of how interactive it was since it allowed us to go outside and catch lantern flies and then go experiment on those lantern flies by ourselves. This experiment was one that was part of our ecosystem section and this in particular was focusing on how lantern flies affect our ecosystem and the impact they had on our ecosystem. We were allowed to dissect our lantern flies and categorize their body parts along with what those specific body parts are used for and how they benefit the lantern flies and their way of life. This assignment taught me that all species have a particular way of life that benefits them and while they may be beneficially to that certain species it can be harmful to other species which is why the topic of invasive species exist. In general this assignment was successful and it showed us many different things about how one particular species can affect others but one thing I would improve is our methods of experimentation.
This assignment was when me and my partners decided to see how different music beats and genres affect our heart rate. I am proud of this assignment because of how interactive it was and how much freedom was given to us to perform this experiment. This experiment allowed us to consider how different things in our daily lives affects our body, specifically our heart rate and how things like our mood or simple things like walking can affect us. In this experiment me and my partners chose how the beats and vibes of different songs affect our heart rates like how hype can increase our heart rate and how chill songs can decrease our heart. Overall I enjoyed this assignment and I`m proud of what me and my partners discovered also the fun that went into getting this.
This assignment was when we were to make a model that ties into our project of what we chose to affect our heart rate. For this assignment I chose a model of how music affects our heart rate. I believe I need to improve on this assignment because I could have done better since I did not try as hard on the assignment as I could have. Also because I believe I chose something basic for the model when I could have been more creative in terms of the template I chose. Overall I believe I could have made better choices in terms of what I did for my work on this model.
This assignment was given to us at the end of the HeLa cells unit, where we had to combine everything we've learned about cancer cells and cells in general to explain why HeLa cells divide forever. By completing this assignment we were able to connect everything we've learned in this unit together and make it into one. This assignment allowed me to fully understand everything we learned by connecting them together and I also enjoyed this assignment because of how much it connects to the real world and allows us to understand how a disease that heavily affects the real world works. From this assignment we were able to understand the way certain cells like the HeLa cells work. Also I enjoyed the assignment because it really challenged me because their was so much information and I had to break it down while showcasing my strengths by allowing me to combine creativity with science. Overall I believe I did good on the assignment and part of that was because of how much I enjoyed and benefited from the assignment itself.
This assignment was given to us at the beginning of the marking period in order to give us information for the work to come later since every assignment given to us after would be dealing with cells and how they divide. In this packet we were supposed to come different tasks that had to do with cell division and it's explanation of how it occurs. From this assignment I was able to learn how cell divide and what the purpose of that division was. The challenging part of this assignment was mainly understanding how cells themselves divide and the whole process of how many cells are after. I struggled to understand because it was a new topic I had never seen before and looking back, one thing I would improve is the way I approached the assignment. Instead of rushing I would actually try to understand the work as I go through the packet. Changing my goal from trying to finish to trying to understand would have helped me greatly on this assignment.
This assignment was the final assignment of the Sickle Cell Anemia Unit where we were supposed to explain why our patient Alexandria has Sickle Cell Anemia using a model. This model had to include the main ideas we learned from the Sickle Cell Anemia Unit which included how different alleles started as mutations that were inherited from generation to generation and how dominant alleles will overpower recessive alleles when present. We also had to include our understanding of pedigrees and alleles in our model to actually figure out how Alexandria actually got this disease in the first place before we begin our model. Using my understanding of what I learned I was able to able these things into my work and be successful at my work.
This assignment was it's own unit where we investigated using forensic skills during the death of Anna Garcia. Each day we examined something about Anna, between her Toxicology or activities for the day we took steps to try and figure out how she died. Through this assignment we were able to be creative and have fun throughout the experiments, while trying to make educated guesses on how Anna might have died. Overall this assignment forced us to really think based on the evidence we were provided with each day and it also gave us an outlook on forensic work.
