This assignment represents the scale factor and dilation section, which is an important theme in this course and for this test we had to incorporate scale factor and dilation onto graphs and shapes and move them based on how much they were dilated by. Also we had to create a shape based on the points they were given to us and then adjust them based on how much their scale factor was. If I had to complete this assignment again, I would improve it by being more precise with the points and measurements in order for me to get the right point.
In order to celebrate Women's History Month we watched a movie that showed women struggles and how they overcame those problems but also involved the use of math. The movie Hidden Figures is a clear representation of this as the the women are placed in a time period where they are treated as second class citizens struggling from both sexism and racial discrimination. Since the movie also included math and critical thinking we were to solve some of the math problems they were doing and try to see if we could get it right as well. I was able to be successful in this assignment through critical thinking and some of the problems were truly difficult.
Through completing this assignment, I learned how to find the missing angles and lengths of triangles using pythagorean theorem and other theorems to break down the triangle. This assignment challenged me to really think outside the box when it comes to figuring out the lengths of different sides when the things I'm used to aren't presented. Overall while it did challenge me, I was able to be successful on this assignment using what I've learned throughout the school year.
For this assignment we were supposed to use scale factor, transformations and dilation to organize the classroom in the way asked of us. This was tricky because we had to use scale factor to shrink everything down but at the same time maintain the right measurements that make sense when they're scaled back up again. After drawing what was given to us we then had to write a set of transformations that would get the classroom objects in the right spot if they were moved. This assignment allowed me to realize how math is used in the real world and its importance despite its difficulty when it came to ensuring the scale factor remained the same and made sense.
For this assignment we were given a swan like figure made up of triangles, rectangles, trapezoids and parallelogram and we were supposed to figure out the area of these polygons in order to figure out the total area of the swan. We had to use different formulas like the pythagorean theorem and the main functions of Trigonometry to figure out the area of some of the shapes. Also this assignment included us making a shape on a graph and figuring out the area and perimeter of the shape using the slopes of different lines.
This was the biggest project of the school year since it included everything we've learned from the start of the school up until now. We were supposed to create a house with multiple rooms, a yard, a garden, fence with carpets and decorations. While this may seem easy we also had to use trigonometry and scale factor whilst figuring out the area and perimeter of each wall. Even though it was hard this assignment gave us the freedom to be creative in many ways. If I had to complete this assignment again, I would improve it by being more detailed with the furniture and coloring.
