As the school year recently began our writing abilities had to be tested in order for our teacher to properly understand where we need help prior to going off to college. In order to fully assess our abilities we were tasked with completing an assessment that engaged our skills like comprehension and evidence analysis. Going into this assignment I didn't fully know what to expect, except for the fact my abilities were going to be tested on whether or not they met the standard. I was slightly nervous but once I began the assignment it felt easier and the writing was able to be completed within the 80 minute time period. Once we got our results back it showed that I met the standard which showed me where I was but also showed I had work to do.
As we began our capstone project and started writing our paper, we had o ensure that the sources we found supported our hypothesis and the data we were beginning to find; this assignment was completed to assist us in our capstone research. Through the bibliography we were able to understand our sources, before we wrote your paper. Also it allowed us to make connections, find information faster, and become more confident in the subject area of your research paper. Although the assignment itself was relatively long because we had to vet each source and sometimes the sources weren't credible but it was worth it as it made our assignment so much easier.
With college approaching, we had to ensure our research skills were at a level so we could thrive and succeed. In order to do this, we were assigned a journal collecting assignment to develop our skills when it came to research and writing. We were taught several strategies to advance the skills and knowledge we already had. The journal had criteria that needed to be met which included the date, article name(s), reading strategies used, a thesis, a quote, something we learned and must be at least 200 words. This criteria helps ensure we aren't randomly writing and instead are actually developing our skills that can be later on applied in our college years. I truly appreciated this assignment and the skills I was able to develop as a result.
Once we had begun writing our Lit Review, we started with our first section which focuses on the background information of our capstone project. In this part we had to introduce all the problems, the idea behind it and speak slightly to our solution. Our first section had to have the following things, four paragraphs, different sources for each paragraph, two quotes per paragraph and a minimum of eight sentences per body paragraph. This was the first part of our assignment and was going to be graded heavily so we had to ensure that it was nearly perfect, so our grade can reflect that. Going into this assignment we had to pan and divide the work efficiently and setup a system for future assignments in order to be successful. Eventually we came up with a plan and managed to succeed on this assignment.
As we neared the end of our Lit Review, we had to submit a final literature review with a completed reference page and all the sections reviewed and checked for any errors. This assignment is to be nearly perfect as this would complete the first section of our assignment and it needed to be perfect before we could move onto the next section of the assignment. As a result it would be graded on a much higher standard that previous assignment which meant this had to be perfect or else we wouldn't be able to move onto to the next section or get a good grade on the assignment. Our group decided to go through everything, inducing our citations and every section to make sure we could get the best grade possible. Unfortunately that didn't happen but we understood where we went wrong and managed to learn and grow.
