Jessica Contreras

Welcome! My name is Jessica Contreras and I am beginning my 18th year of teaching at Ramona Communication Arts Academy. I've had the opportunity to teach Preschool, 3rd, 4th, and 2nd grade. This will be my 3rd year teaching 2nd Grade. 

My goal is to provide all my students with a positive learning environment where all students can thrive and feel valued. I emphasize Social Emotional Learning activities in my classroom such as mindfulness techniques, conflict resolution strategies and sharing circles to build a strong classroom community. I embed Kagan cooperative learning strategies throughout the day to help my students build their language skills and increase engagement in student activities. Additionally, I strive to integrate Social Studies and Science throughout my ELA instruction as much as possible. These subjects enhance students’ background knowledge throughout our ELA units and help build a rich vocabulary.
