Student Attendance Expectations
Mental Health Specialists (MHS) are hired by OKCPS to serve students. District mental health professionals with master’s degree licensed in social work (SSW), as well as licensed professional counselors (LPC), and License Alcohol Drug Counselors (LADC/LADCMH) who provide student support and intervention that foster a positive and inviting school climate. Supports are inclusive of emotional and behavior support within the school setting that address mental health and behavioral concerns, academic and classroom support, and consultation with school counselors, teachers, parents, and administrators. Mental Health Specialists are multisite staff. They are gatekeepers for curriculum, services, and in-service programs for instructional staff for school-wide development and coordination of the prevention, intervention and postvention of wellness and mental health programs. MHS provide assistance within the Multi-tiered Intervention System of Support to ensure social and emotional behavioral services within Tier 1 and Tier 2 are provided. Additionally, they work with School Counselors to facilitate Tier 3 services for students with community partners.
Mental Health Specialists are the link between the school, home, and community. They work with students, family members, OKCPS staff/teachers, other professionals, and our community. Mental Health Specialists (MHS) are hired by the OKCPS to serve students. MHS are licensed mental health professionals with master’s degrees who provide support and interventions that foster a positive and inviting school climate inclusive of emotional support through mental health services for students impacted by crises, including trauma, poverty, substance abuse, suicidal ideation, self-harm, threats to self and threats to others, and other behavioral concerns. They are gatekeepers for Embrace OKC curriculum, services, and in-service programs for instructional staff for school-wide development and coordination of the prevention, intervention and postvention of wellness and mental health programs. Mental Health Specialists are assigned schools per the students' needs. They provide assistance within the Multi-tiered Intervention System of Support to ensure social and emotional learning services within Tier 1 and Tier 2 are provided. Additionally, they work with School Counselors to facilitate Tier 3 services for students with community partners.
