Joy in the Wilderness

"A playful, delightful, and dare I say, a joy-filled Lent is the kind of Lent we need right now.  It fits the times we're in and it fits the image of God revealed to us by Jesus."

Ash Wednesday Service

In the Gospels we read that Jesus was led by the Spirit into the wilderness of the Judean Desert for forty days.  In the desert he encountered (and resisted) the same fearful and self-deceiving impulses that plagued his ancestors.  But it’s worth noting that Jesus’ time in the wilderness wasn’t a one off experience, it would become a pattern throughout his life.  He kept going back to the wilderness.   You might even say he enjoyed his time in the wilderness.

Lent is our chance to follow Jesus into the country of God’s affections; an opportunity to “follow the leading strings of God’s grace” into the vast landscape of God’s delight.

Holy Week Reflection

This Holy Week, Let us feel the joy of being Christian! We believe in the Risen One who conquered evil and death! Let us have the courage to "come out of ourselves" to take this joy and this light to all the places of our life! The Resurrection of Christ is our greatest certainty; he is our most precious treasure! How can we not share this treasure, this certainty with others?

Pope Francis
