Chapel Use Guidelines:

Our chapels are sacred spaces set aside for the religious and spiritual needs of each of our school communities and their members.

Chapels are a distinguishing feature of our Catholic education system.

A chapel reminds us to make room for God who is at the center of all life

A chapel’s primary function is to support personal prayer and communal liturgy as well as school pastoral programs. In addition, staff members are encouraged to use this space with their students for prayer and reflection.

In order to facilitate the hospitable use of our chapels, and yet retain their sacredness, the following protocols apply:

Staff members seeking to use the school’s chapel are asked to consult with the chaplaincy leader regarding the appropriateness of the activity or event for this space. The use of a chapel should be for faith related activities and events.

  • Bookings should be made through the school principal or chaplaincy leader. A staff member must make the booking.

  • If the chapel is used for an event or activity other than prayer or liturgy, careful attention should be taken to set aside any religious items (lectionary, cross, candles, altar, etc…) before use and to return them after use.

  • The staff member who books the chapel is responsible for ensuring that it is returned to its original condition after use. Care and maintenance of our sacred space is a shared responsibility.

These protocols will help us to respect our Roman Catholic tradition of setting aside sacred spaces for the spiritual needs of the Christian community.
