Classroom Prayer Tables/Spaces

We are very blessed to be able to share our faith in our school community. Our goal is to keep God at the centre of all we do.

In order to do this, we create prayer tables/spaces in each classroom designed that to speak to the needs of each class.

It's important to set up a quality space and to keep it updated often.

The Basics

General Faith Items:

There are a number of basic items on most prayer tables/spaces:

  • Crucifix or cross

  • Bible (English NRSV or en francais)

  • Prayer intention box or bulletin board

  • A candle

  • Holy image or statue

  • Visual connections to annual spiritual theme

  • Paper placemat or small table cloth showing the liturgical colour. (Green and Purple are the most frequently used)

Using Your Prayer Table:

There are many ways in which your class may choose to use their prayer table. They may choose to bring in articles about world events they wish to pray about, They may bring in photos of loved ones who are sick or who have died. They might choose to have petitions written up on the wall on Post-It notes. Any way in which your class chooses to utilize your table is encouraged.

Liturgical Seasons & Colours

  • September - November 28: Green (Ordinary Time)

  • November 29 - December 24: Purple (Advent)

  • December 25 - January 10: White (Christmas)

  • January 11 - February 16: Green (Ordinary Time)

  • February 17- April 3: Purple (Lent)

  • April 4- May 23: White (Easter)

  • May 24 - June 30: Green (Ordinary Time)

Patron Saints:

Choose a patron saint who matches your subject area being studied. Here are some ideas:

      • Auto - St. Catherine of Alexandria - Tools, manuals

      • Business - St. Margaret Clitherow - Graphs, books

      • Comp/Tech - St. Isidore of Seville - Mouse, thumb drive

      • Contemporary Studies - St. Maximilian Kolbe - Newsclippings, current events

      • Dance - St. Vitus - Costume, shoes

      • Drama - St. Genesius - Quotes, masquerade mask

      • English - St. Lucy - Books, plays, quotations

      • French - St. Jean Baptiste - Books, French/Quebec flag
