Arthur Campbell Wilkinson was a student at Glebe who lived on 43 Strathcona. He was born on April 12, 1920 in Ottawa, Ontario and died at the age of 24 in River Oren, France. He enlisted into the army on November 28, 1939. His parents are Curt Lorne and Alta Rockfeller Wilkinson. His mother was in the national 1975 silver cross mother memorial. Arthur’s mother was also the president twice for the Silver Cross memorial.
Arthur Campbell Wilkinson enlisted into the army with the unit The Black Watch (Royal Highguard Regiment of Canada). Arthur sailed to England the same year he had enlisted. I think Athur enlisted because he wanted to help and make a change instead of letting things go by and leaving it for someone else.
Arthur Campbell Wilkinson passed away on July 18, 1944, in Operation Overlord; better known as The Battle of Normandy or D-Day. He was 24 at the time of his death. His grave lies in Calvados, France, north of Cintheaux. The cemetery holds the graves of many brave soldiers who died in the Battle of Normandy, the thrust southwards, and the Capture of Caen. Here he rests with 3,000 other brave soldiers who gave their lives for our country.

'If we do preserve it, we honour them, and when we in our turn pass on, we will know that behind us lives a generation of free men and of free women to be the keepers of this great heritage of ours - Canada.'
