Linley was born January 27 1918 in Ottawa, He was the son of Harvey M. Wetmore and Florence M. Wetmore, also he had a sister Shirley.He had brown hair and blue eyes. He was 6 feet.He was a sportsman .He played basketball with Y.M.C.A. He lived on 18 Findlay.He was a pilot in Royal Air Force Canada.
He enlisted on May 5, 1941 in Ottawa. He was employed for some time with the department of transport ,after graduating from Glebe collegiate institute. Also he was part of St. Matthew’s church and Rideau Aquatic Club. He was in the Royal Canadian Air Force on the 5th day of May 1941, and was granted leave of absence without pay. He arrived in England on May 7, 1942. I think he enlisted, because he wanted to help his country. But he didn’t have any flying experience. He went flying from February 2, 1941 to March 3, 1942. He got normal marks in the report.
The reason for his death is, after being critically injured in an airplane crash at Sackets Harbor, N.Y. on Monday, L.A.C Linley D.Wetmore of 18 Findlay avenue, Ottawa, died at Madison Banks. N.Y in his 25th year. While conducting solo navigational exercise, the airman’s Harvard training plane crashed at Sackets Harbor, N.Y, and he was quickly transported to the United States Army hospital at Madison Barracks.
