Sidney Darling was born on June 9th, 1920, in Regina. His parents, Herbert and Mary Darling moved to Canada from England, soon after they had four children, 2 daughters Jeannette and Margaret followed by Cidney and his younger brother. His father who was in the RCMP decided to move to Ottawa in 1931. They lived on 28 Clemow ave. for four years. During this time Sidney attended Glebe Collegiate.
On August 16th 1941 Sidney Darling Enlisted in Canadian artillery. He enlisted in Regina Saskatchewan. I think he enlisted because his dad was an RCMP officer and he was an RCMP officer so he joined because he already had a lot of experience. Because of his experience in the RCMP he was a lieutenant with the 4th field regiment. Lieutenants are a type of officers and are higher in rank than an average person in the military. After 17 months of training across Canada his regiment went to England and they were 2nd Canadian Infantry Division.
Sidney was a member of St. Matthews Anglican church.
He was admitted to the hospital on April 27th, 1943 and then during surgery on June 7th, 1943 for appendicitis he died. He was buried in Brookwood cemetery in Plot 40 row E 10.

'If we do preserve it, we honour them, and when we in our turn pass on, we will know that behind us lives a generation of free men and of free women to be the keepers of this great heritage of ours - Canada.'
