Honouring The Office

Over the past year and a bit, as our entire society transitioned from one lockdown to the next, the emergence of streaming services like Netflix have skyrocketed in viewership. From Tiger King to more recently, The Queen’s Gambit, it felt like every new lockdown came with a trendy new list of movies and shows to watch.

However, through thick and thin, one American comedy show was by far the most-watched TV show available on major subscription-video platforms. With over 57 billion minutes streamed, The Office, stood head and shoulders above the competition, which is especially astounding considering the show ended in 2013.

This sitcom has become especially popular among teenagers, so to honour what is hopefully the last lockdown coming to an end, us two teens, Milind Kumar and Aaya Mahdi, want to honour this show by providing our very own “Top 10” lists. In this article, we will each highlight our 10 favourite episodes out of the 200+ filmed, and will even share the results of the tournament run by the OCV Instagram page to see what their favourite episode was.

So if you are a die-hard fan of the show or have never heard of it at all, this article will hopefully bring back some great memories and have you thinking about your own top 10 lists, or might give you some suggestions as to what episodes you might want to watch to start or get back into this show with in the future.

OCV Vote

In order to get the opinions of more than just us two fans of the show, we created a poll and posted it on the OCV Virtual Voice Instagram page. This tournament took place over the past week, where 16 different episodes of the show battled it out in a single-elimination tournament to decide the best episode of all time. The tournament results are as follows:

*Important information from the tournament: The matchups were determined based on the order that each episode occurred in the show, and the scores in the matchups represent the percentage of the votes that each episode got in that specific matchup. Also, a funny coincidence is that the finals matchup between “The Injury” and “Threat Level Midnight” ended in a complete 50/50 tie, so we did a revote, and we have the updated percentages shown in this tournament bracket.

So, after about 6 days of Instagram polls and 15 matchups later, OCV students have concluded that the single best episode of The Office is season 7 episode 17, Threat Level Midnight!!!
