Credit Limit Override Guide

Please see the following stipulations regarding the Credit Limit Override Process for the upcoming semester:

If a student wishes to take more than the standard 9 credits during the upcoming semester, the maximum amount they may enroll for is 12.

Credit Limit Overrides are only available to full-time students who would otherwise be taking 9 credits per semester.

In order to be eligible for 12 credits, students must have completed at least 1 semester with a cumulative GPA of 3.4 or above.

The submission window to complete the form will be June 10th, 2024 - August 5th, 2024.

The department will begin reviewing all submissions in the order they are received. You will be notified sometime after this date.

If you are taking summer classes, submissions will not be reviewed until after final grades are posted.

Students must fill out the Credit Limit Override Form within the submission window. NO LATE APPLICATIONS WILL BE APPROVED.

Once submitted, please allow time for processing. You will be notified when your application has been approved/denied- again, submissions will be reviewed in the order they are received. Approval is not guaranteed and is at the discretion of both the Department of Technology Management and Innovation and the Office of Graduate Academics.

Because registration will be open prior to the credit limit override processing time, students should first register for their usual 9 credits. Once your application is approved, only then may you add a 4th course (12 credits).

Once approved, courses are subject to availability. Students may only add a course that is shown on Albert as OPEN.

Please note that this process is entirely optional, and intended for students who wish to graduate up to one semester early. Once you have completed degree requirements, you must apply for graduation. If you take more than the standard 9 credits per term and complete degree requirements in 3 semesters rather than 4, you may not extend your studies into a 4th semester, even though your I20 may still be valid for a full 2 years. In addition, graduating early may have some visa implications if you are an international student, so please be sure to confirm this is an option with the Office of Global Services (OGS) if necessary. The department also encourages students to continue taking 9 credits per semester.
