Department of Technology Management and Innovation
Full-time MS students must be registered for 9 credits or more each semester. It's standard for students to take 9 credits per semester. All F-1 and J-1 international students must register full-time every semester or receive permission from OGS for a reduced course load (RCL), which is anything less than full-time registration.
Albert will allow you to register for up to 11.5 credits each semester. If you are interested in taking 12 credits, please review the following guidelines carefully. This process is optional and intended for students who wish to accelerate their time to degree completion.
Eligibility Requirements:
Only full-time students are eligible to apply.
The maximum number of credits allowed with an override is 12.
To be eligible, students must have completed at least one semester and have a cumulative GPA of 3.4 or higher.
Submission Window:
The Credit Limit Override request form will be available beginning Monday, January 5, 2026 to Thursday, January 29 at 3:00pm. No late submissions will be accepted.
The department will begin reviewing requests on a rolling basis starting when the form opens. You will be notified of a decision within three business days.
Students taking summer classes should note that requests will not be reviewed until after final grades are posted.
Please allow time for processing; approvals are not guaranteed.
Important Notes:
Students should register for a minimum 9 credits during the regular registration period.
If your override request is approved, you may then add a fourth course (up to 12 credits), depending on course availability.
You may only register for courses that are listed as OPEN in Albert at the time of registration.
Final decisions are made by the Department of Technology Management and Innovation and the Office of Graduate Academics.
Graduation & Visa Implications:
This process is meant to support students who plan to graduate early (in three semesters instead of four).
Once you complete your degree requirements, you must apply for graduation.
You may not extend your program into a fourth semester after completing your degree, even if your I-20 remains valid.
International students: Please check with the Office of Global Services (OGS) before pursuing early graduation to ensure there are no impacts on your visa status.
Reminder: The department encourages students to take 9 credits per semester unless there is a compelling academic reason to accelerate.
