Verify Eligibility and Remaining Requirements
Review your program’s Degree Requirements and you may wish to meet with your program advisor before registering for your last semester’s classes for a Graduation Check
Ensure that any departmental waivers, exceptions, transfer credit, or substitutions have been approved by your program advisor and submitted through the appropriate NYU office
Degrees are not automatically awarded, it’s your responsibility to apply to graduate in Albert
Once you’ve applied, you may receive an email confirming you applied and notifying you of any outstanding items to prevent you from graduating. You do not need to contact your advisor if you’re still in progress with any courses or requirements, as you cannot graduate until grades are submitted for all your work.
Completed your program capstone? This also remains “outstanding” in this confirmation email until you’ve completed all your coursework. If you haven’t completed, or won’t meet deadlines to submit for the semester you intend to graduate, please contact your advisor.
Once the semester ends, the Registrar's department automatically audits all graduation applications and approves those who have met the requirements. There is no need to notify your program advisor you’ve applied to graduate unless you receive an Ineligible to Graduate notice after all your requirements have been completed or more than 8 weeks have passed since the semester ended and you are still showing pending for graduation.
If your plans change and you no longer wish to graduate the semester you applied for, you must withdraw your application and reapply to graduate for the correct semester. Email: graduation@nyu.edu
Note: Verify on Albert that you are in good financial standing and contact the Bursar if there are any issues.
Students may officially graduate in September, January, or May, however, you must apply for graduation by the deadline listed below in order to be considered as a candidate.
You should also verify or update your expected date of graduation on NYU Albert. You can find this in the Academics section under Graduation.
You won’t be able to update your expected graduation term after you apply for graduation, which could impact your student record and financial aid. You can verify or update your expected date of graduation on NYU Albert in the Academics section under "Graduation."
In addition to your application deadline, you will have to meet the requirements deadline. All requirements associated with your graduation status must be satisfied by this date.
Some schools and departments could set earlier deadlines for some associated items. You can find out more about these deadlines through your school’s website, bulletin, or through your academic advisor.
If you do not meet your requirements before the deadline, you will have to reapply for graduation in the next term.

Your ID card is valid until the date printed on it. However, your swipe access will be limited; you will not be able to get into most buildings with swipe access including Bobst, fitness centers, and Kimmel Center.
