Pass/Fail Grading Options
Pass/Fail Grading Options
The pass/fail grading option allows students to opt out of a weighted grade for a course. Once a student elects to take a course pass/fail, they will no longer receive a letter grade but will receive a “P” or “F” on their transcript. Pass/Fail grades are not counted towards a term or cumulative GPA. A grade of “D” or better will earn you a Pass grade.
Students may take up to a maximum of 25% of their total coursework as pass/fail. In MCC, undergraduate students can only take the following courses on a pass/fail basis:
Foreign Language*
Liberal Arts Core** (Texts & Ideas, Cultures & Contexts, etc.)
Liberal Arts Electives**
Unrestricted Electives**
*Please note that when studying abroad, foreign languages must be taken for a letter grade.
**Electives cannot be taken pass/fail if being used toward a minor or double major.
The pass/fail option must be chosen by the deadline on the academic calendar for that semester. Send completed pass/fail forms to your advisor for approval.
