Welcome Letter

Welcome From the Chair

Welcome to New York University’s Department of Media, Culture, and Communication (MCC).

As you will soon see, you will be joined by an exceptional cohort of incoming BS students. Your fellow students, drawn from a highly competitive international applicant pool, have an exciting range of intellectual and professional interests. I urge you to reach out to one another and make the most of your learning and networking experience at MCC.

Likewise, with our faculty: MCC professors represent the cutting edge of their disciplines, from visual culture and technology studies to globalization, media industries and political communication. They are eager to welcome you to their seminars where you will have the chance to discuss the latest theories and apply them to contemporary world events.

Your MCC intellectual adventure extends beyond the classroom to an array of special events and lectures hosted in our department and across NYU. You will want to take advantage of these opportunities as well as all that New York City has to offer.

And the first step to making sure you don’t miss anything is to read the handbook you hold in your hands. The BS Handbook should be your first stop to answer all your questions about department policies and procedures. Also check out our department website and the NYU Steinhardt Student’s Guide.

Have more questions? Your advisors can provide everything you’ll need to succeed at MCC: program information, course registration, and referrals to both departmental and campus resources.

Again, welcome to NYU and MCC! Our faculty and staff are delighted that you are here and we look forward to meeting you soon.
