The minor in Data and Education, open to all undergraduates across NYU, aims to introduce students to how data-driven solutions and applications can improve and inform education practices, policy making, and implementation; and how education, as a tool, can impact many aspects of society beyond school boundaries. Using a critical lens, students will examine important issues in the use of data to address education issues, such as access and equity, ethics and values, both in the US and globally. Students will learn how to understand and manage education data, how to think about and examine the complexities of education data, how and why education data are collected, and what kinds of important education issues can be explored and solved through data.
The program is designed for:
students who come from data science or other related technical backgrounds (such as computer science, data science and statistics, information sciences, and other related STEM fields) and are interested in education-related solutions and applications;
students who come from social science, humanities and a range of professional backgrounds at NYU (such as education, policy, business and public health) and are interested in leveraging data-driven technologies/solutions in improving education-related practices and policies in broad settings.
Students can email minor.data.education@nyu.edu with any questions about the minor.
