2026/27
Good morning Parents and Carers,
As you know, Forest School is a big part of life at Northlands Wood and has been since I joined 9 years ago. Under Mr Way's leadership, I am confident that this will remain so and I know it is something which all the children and staff relish.
For the start of next year, however, there will be a 'pause' on the formal, structured sessions which we have been familiar with. This is due to Mr Kelly requiring a double hip replacement, with the surgeons doing one of these procedures at the end of July, and the other scheduled for early in 2027. I know you will join me in wish him a speedy recovery, so that he can return ready to kickstart Forest School sessions back into action as soon as possible!
We have been working behind the scenes to ensure there remains the resources and provision for aspects of outdoor learning to still continue. The PTFA have very kindly funded some new storage which means the key resources will be readily available for classes when they go outside into the area to do their learning and Mrs Hornby is providing some additional input, training and guidance for staff during the September INSET day in support of how they will approach these new opportunities. In addition, my new role as Outdoor Education Officer for West Sussex, will give Northlands Wood direct access to any further help they might need with this, in Mr Kelly's absence.
In summary:-
1. Children will still be spending time outside, regularly, making use of our wonderful Forest School areas...just in a different way.
2. The clothing and equipment you have brought or sourced for your child will still be very much needed.
3. Opportunities for parents and grandparents to volunteer and support with these incredibly special outdoor learning sessions will still be available - please speak to your child's new Class Teacher in September!
Mr Way and the Forest School team will continue to update you as more is known next year, but I hope this update is helpful so as to provide you with some knowledge and background about how this will look for the first couple of terms next year.
Have a lovely day in all you do.
Mr Sears
