Some details of the project are below:-
The Telling Tree Project
Initial plan:-
A mixture of storytelling, arts, history, geography and ecology.
The project will be starting in January 2026.
We would be working in Turvey Woods and it would be an opportunity for the children to deepen their connection and knowledge of the woods and its flora and fauna.
We are inviting three schools to work with us for two years in their local woods.
Each year we will work with 30 children aged 7- 8 years from each school onsite in the woods over 3 sessions (with an additional short intro session and short end of project session to celebrate their experiences). This will provide opportunities to either connect with local woodlands for the first time or deepen their relationship with local woods. Our work together will include traditional storytelling making and creativity, elements of nature exploration and forest school activities, ecology and local history and geography.
There will be opportunities for the children to share their adventures and discoveries with their school & families.
We will be developing a teachers/ facilitators resource pack together with the schools that we work with the aim of presenting it to the participating schools so that the work can continue if desired after the project ends.
Let me tell you a bit more about myself. I am a traditional storyteller and community artist and have worked widely with children and within projects and events themed around the natural world, for more information please see my website.
