Building an outdoor den brings entirely new challenges that take plenty of creativity to overcome. Using a collection of branches, sticks, tarps, and other loose parts scattered around the Forest School site, children see if they can build a den or tree house. Can they make it waterproof, windproof or camouflaged? Will it keep them dry and warm if necessary?

Den's are great spaces for letting imaginations run wild. They may become a secret storytelling hideout, a fairy castle, or something else. Children can build two rival dens with their friends and make a treasure hunting competition in the woods. Who will bring the most loot back to their den, without getting caught by the other team?
