Campfire & Cooking

At Forest School the children learn about the fire triangle and how to safely build and maintain a fire. They will use a fire steel to produce a spark to ignite cotton wool. They also learn that by collecting, sorting, and storing the driest, most appropriate tinder and kindling, they will be more likely to make a successful fire.

Once the fire is lit they can then cook delicious food using some of the produce grown on site in our vegetable garden. In the past the children have made their own flatbread recipes, as well as followed recipes to make cowboy stew and a vegetable soup, using the tomatoes and other veg from the garden. The children also enjoy preparing hot chocolate, making campfire donuts, wrap pizzas, chocolate orange cakes, popcorn and of course our favourite, yummy s'mores!
