The NPS Help Desk phone number is 366-0536. Their hours are 8:00 to 4:00.

iPad tablets are used in grades PreK-4th, and for special needs students at all levels when appropriate. At grades PreK-2nd each classroom has a set of iPads, in approximately a 1:4 ratio. In 3rd and 4th grade students have access to more iPads. Students do not take the iPads home.

In addition to a MacBook, teachers also have an iPad. The iPad is used to present instruction and to monitor and manage student devices during class, using Apple Classroom.

iPads are filtered through the district's filter. Students do not take iPads home.

Using the Filewave App Portal to add apps

Over 70 popular and frequently used apps that have been vetted by the district can be found in the NPS Filewave App Portal kiosk. Accessing apps through this kiosk is faster and more convenient than using the App Store, and you will not have to use your Apple ID to install these apps. Here is a list of programs and apps available for both iPads and MacBooks.

  1. Swipe to the screen where the App Portal icon is showing, and tap on the icon.

  2. Scroll through the available apps, or search for an app.

  3. Tap on an app you would like to install. Read the description, then click on the Install button.

If you cannot find an app you want in the App Portal kiosk, or if an app is going to be purchased with district money - not your personal purchase - it should be requested using a KACE Instructional Resources ticket. Purchased apps will be pushed to the appropriate iPads through Filewave, and managed at the district level.

Adding apps from the Apple App Store

Teachers can install apps from the Apple App Store on their Teacher iPad, for their own use, or in order to evaluate an app they may wish to use with students.

You will need an Apple ID to try an app that is not in the NPS App Portal, even if the app is free. Apps that you install through the Apple App Store cannot be managed through Filewave at the district level. Please understand that if you use your NPS Gmail account for your Apple ID, and if you leave the district or retire, you will lose access to that Apple ID account, and any apps that you have purchased.

  1. Tap on the App Store icon on your iPad screen.

  2. Tap on Categories at the bottom of the screen, or tap in the Search bar at the top of the screen.

  3. Free apps will have a a GET button. Notice that most free apps will have an "In-App Purchases" statement beneath the GET button. Free apps may also have advertisements, which can be distracting and sometimes inappropriate.

  4. Notice also the "star" rating for each app, and how many people have rated an app.

  5. Tap on the picture of the app to read the details, reviews, and see related apps.

  6. Tap away from the description window to return to the search screen and tap on the GET button.

  7. Tap INSTALL.

  8. You will have to enter your Apple ID before the app will download and install. Tap GET.

  9. Often it will tell you your login failed. Select Try Again, and enter your Apple ID again.

  10. At this point, you may see the option of bypassing the password entry for free items. Think carefully about selecting this option. If students sometimes use your iPad, they could install apps, which would fill up the iPad.

NOTE: If you see a red circle with a number on your iPad App Store icon, this indicates that there are updates available for some of your apps. You do not have to install update apps immediately.
