Expectations of the Librarian
The librarian at your school is expected to follow the national and state guidelines and standards outlined in the American Association of School Librarians National School Library Standards for Learners, School Librarians, and School Libraries and the Oklahoma standards document. These standards can be found at: https://standards.aasl.org/ and http://sde.ok.gov/sde/library-media.
Librarians are expected to:
- Teach students and staff individually and as a group using the standards and guidelines outlined in the National School Library Standards for Learners, School Librarians, and School Libraries and the Oklahoma Standards document.
- Plan collaboratively with teachers to design authentic learning tasks and assessments.
- Coteach with classroom teachers.
- Practice flexible scheduling.
- Provide inquired-based learning experiences for students.
- Develop clearly defined goals for reading, collaboration, technology, and information literacy in the school.
- Attend library meetings and inservices throughout the year.
- Participate in the school’s instructional team.
- Maintain a library webpage that includes links to district and state-wide databases, the library online catalog, and educational resources that support the curriculum.
- Provide leadership and expertise in locating, accessing, and evaluating information within and beyond the school library.
- Provide management of the library facility and budget.
- Plan, manage and evaluate the library program.
