The Hurst Recording Award is the brainchild of Christoph Andersson, the producer behind many of G-Eazy's chart topping work, including "Me, Myself and I," and who founded the Hurst Recordings label to capitalize on some of his production ventures. Much of Christoph's sound, at least from what I've heard, is the sound of today's most exciting popular music, and tends to be on the cutting edge of what sounds "big." I'm sure his hope in awarding the Hurst scholarship was to reward this type of forward thinking in music production at a student level, and provides the recipient with a $500 cash sum to purchase equipment needed to further their sound. This year, Trunks Sims took it home for his tireless efforts in perfecting his sonic personality throughout his time at NOCCA. He consistently pushed the edge of what made him exciting as a writer and producer, and never settled for a sound beneath his professional standards. We hope Trunks' ambitions in music can be more fully-realized now with the assistance of some professional-grade gear, and we trust he'll make the most of it.
