I work closely alongside the IT Coordinator to collaborate with Curriculum and Instruction and Professional Development Departments in the district in order to coordinate and offer ongoing professional development for staff throughout the district. This includes researching future opportunities regarding professional development implementation, allocating and managing IT team involvement, writing and presenting development when needed, and supporting other departments.

This presentation was delivered as part of a Google for Education North Texas Roadshow hosted by Northwest ISD on 4/20/23. Technology leaders from districts in the North Texas area came to learn about upcoming Google Workspace for Education releases and products, as well as security updates to the Google admin console. We were happy to showcase how Northwest ISD is using Google Sites as our primary platform for student ePortfolios and how Google Workspace tools allows our students to tell their story and showcase the achievements and learning that is most important to them.

This was a second presentation that I did in conjunction with the NISD Parent Education program. Beginning in 2020, the program began offering webinar versions of their parent education classes and presentations. These continued into 2021 as Zoom meetings and offering at-home versions of parent education offering became the norm. This presentation was originally given on May 13, 2021, and is updated regularly to be used as a resource. It contains details and explanations on some of the most used applications of the time that parents need to be aware about.
This presentation is one I created in conjunction with the NISD Parent Education program. Beginning in 2020, the program began offering webinar versions of their parent education classes and presentations. This one specifically highlights the efforts of NISD to teach Digital Citizenship lessons to students. It offers explanations of what our digital citizenship curriculum includes, examples of lessons, and numerous parent resources that can be utilizing to continue conversations at home. Check out more on Digital Citizenship in Northwest ISD at digitalcitizenship.nisdtx.org.
In continuation of the theme from the presentation below, Northwest ISD Systems Engineer Sean Jones and I created a similar presentation about the benefits of single sign-on (SSO) that showcased multiple methods and possible solutions. We gave this presentation at TCEA Conference 2020 and included multiple examples of single-sign on methods, both free and paid, including: Microsoft Azure with SDS, Google Classroom with G Suite SSO, Clever, Identity Automation from Rapid Identity, and ClassLink. We wanted to educate other districts that may have not yet made the change on the different methods available as well as the definitive benefits of a SSO solution.
This presentation was given at TCEA Systems administrator conference 2019. It was a joint presentation with ClassLink and members of the Technology Division from Northwest ISD. The purpose of this presentation was to demonstrate the importance of single sign-on (SSO) solutions and used Northwest ISD's experiences with ClassLink as an example of successful integration. It details NISD's journey to having a SSO solution, other methods we utilized along the road, and the eventual partnership with ClassLink that remains to this day.
I created this presentation to tell the story of how Northwest ISD began having blended learning classes as part of a district initiative to explore both the pedagogical benefits and the feasibility of these classes inside our existing school system. This presentation was given at TCEA 2019, at other local district conferences, as well as inside NISD to district stakeholders. It includes an overview of blended learning, why NISD chose to pursue this program, what barriers we had to breakdown in order to build a program, qualitative and quantitative results from the first three years of implementation, and resources that other districts can use to help build their own program.
This presentation covers the threats, dangers, and possible solutions for protecting student data and student privacy in today's digital age. It uses specific examples to review what can happen when procedures aren't followed, and then goes into a couple of ways that campus leadership can improve their own practice to keep student data safe. Written with Cara carter, Director of Instructional Technology, and delivered to campus principals at district leadership training in Spring of 2018.
This presentation was created by Katy Barrey and I. Katy is on the Instructional Technology team and her and I work extensively on improving district processes through the use of Google Forms and Sheets. This presentation shares much of what makes Google Forms and Sheets so innovative and helpful in organizing and streamlining processes. It goes into intermediate and more extensive examples of formulas, formatting, and tools you can utilize in Google Sheets to review, analyze, and present data in useful ways. It also has pages where collaborative sharing of useful forms and sheets is encouraged. This was presented at TCEA Conference 2018 and the North Texas Visioning Consortium in 2017.
This presentation was created jointly with Mr. Conall Busby, Instructional Coach for Denton ISD. Presented at TCEA Conference 2018, it seeks to maximize creativity and critical thinking in the classroom through the use of technology. Specifically, it focuses on pedagogy and techniques and how to utilize them alongside technology tools to give students opportunities to more fully explore the process of learning. The goal is not to get the correct answer, but rather to focus on the skills gained during the process of thinking critically and creatively while arriving at an answer.
Presented at TCEA Convention 2018 with Naomi Bates of Follett School Solutions. This presentation shows how learning needs to be chunked up to allow learners to chew on the information instead of overwhelming them with information. The methods in this presentation prepare educators to create an environment that encourages learning and using strategies to reinforce lessons. Techniques for "chunking and chewing" are demonstrated and used throughout the presentation through the use of digital tools in professional development scenarios. Tools covered include Google Drive, Adobe Spark, Flipgrid, Recap, Quizzizz, and Prism.
Created with Adobe Spark, this presentation was created for students in conjunction with a campus teacher. Developed jointly with Mrs. Naomi Bates, Library Media Specialist at Northwest High School, this interactive presentation was given to students in Mrs. Jana Hamby's Education & Training Intern Class. The focus was learning about the role of technology in the instructional process, how to use technology applications appropriate for subjects and student needs, as well as how to use technology for instruction, evaluation and management in the classroom.
This Google Drive training was delivered to teachers at the Northwest ISD ENGAGE conference 2016. Designed for beginner level Google Suite users, this presentation will help teachers become more comfortable using Google Drive and Google Suite tools. The training outcomes were to introduce Google Drive to staff, provide information about and examples of the different Google Apps for Education, and allow them time to explore and experience those applications. This is the second version of this particular presentation and training.
This was a district-wide training that all Instructional Technologists did in order to support the district roll-out of Chromebooks for all students grades 3-12. The IT Team created the template for the training and I modified the presentation for Northwest High School. Topics covered include Topics covered include a device FAQ, justification for the device, basic device information, how files are used via Google Drive, how to work offline, Chromebook Academy resource in Moodle, etc.
This presentation was created by former NISD Instructional Technologist Melissa Griffith and myself and presented at TCEA 2016. Google Drive for Admin, or tools for the visionary leader, gives the audience a brief intro to Google Drive but focuses mainly on taking administrative tasks and organization and streamlining them to deliver maximum efficiency. By showing admins how to quickly gather and utilize data, Google Drive can become a tool for powerful change.
During my final year in the classroom I flipped my classroom instruction and also restructured my curriculum units so that they were self-paced and self-monitored by the students. This gave them the ability to spend as much time as they needed to learn the material, while simultaneously freeing time in class in order to let me work with students individually more often. This presentation details the steps I took to flip my classroom and the results and observations I made following the flipped units. It was given at NISD 1:World Conference 2015.
