As they become the norm rather than the exception in education, Digital Textbooks, Materials, and Platforms need to be properly vetted and assessed before use. This includes a well designed adoption process workflow, questions and considerations during the adoption process, and an inventory system of adopted materials.
As they become the norm rather than the exception in education, Digital Textbooks, Materials, and Platforms need to be properly vetted and assessed before use. This includes a well designed adoption process workflow, questions and considerations during the adoption process, and an inventory system of adopted materials.
As IT Director I am integral part of the digital textbook and materials adoption and review process. This includes:
A specific workflow (see below) with clearly defined roles and responsibilities as part of the adoption process
"Make or Break" questions (see below) for departments to ask vendors before exploring digital resources
Reviewing Privacy Policies and Terms of Use to ensure new materials abide by federal laws (FERPA, COPPA, CIPA)
Maintaining a district Data Services Agreement that ensures vendors will handle data appropriately as required by federal, state, and local policies
A maintained spreadsheet that records and inventories all vetted and adopted materials for future consideration
Training and resources made available to those who are part of the adoption process to facilitate cohesion
Working in conjunction with the Instructional Resource & Technology Manager to update procedures as needed.
