At the request of Human Resources, I created an online version of our existing central office evaluation forms and placed them into a Google Form. I then utilized third party apps like copydown and autocrat to automatically generate evaluation documents for HR based on when the Google Form is filled out and submitted.
The idea here is to make the evaluation process easier and more accessible to all administrators at central office that need to perform evaluations. This automatically generates the document for them for review and allows them to automatically keep a copy in their Google Drive for future review.
Melissa Griffith and I created a form and spreadsheet for use at all the High Schools this year to track community service hours, notify supervisors, enable supervisor approval of hours, and calculating total hours.
While use of this form may not be continued next year, it did allow us to digitally track and maintain summary of hours for community service without having to pay a third party software. Solutions to campus and District needs are something we constantly have to provide, assess, and adjust, and this Green Cord Form and Spreadsheet is a perfect example of a resource created for good purpose, but may not be the best fit for the level of need across the entire district. On a smaller scale or with ongoing teacher support, it would be more successful for student monitoring.
This is just a very short and simple site I created to showcase how easy it is to use New Google Sites create and share your own websites. This site was utilized to teach a Tech Bytes lunch and learn session at Northwest HS.
It's important to keep up-to-date on the newest tools and resources that our teachers can utilize to drive instruction in their classrooms. By having lunch and learn sessions, introducing them to new digital tools, and providing resources and "how to" information such as this, we support learning and exploration in the classroom.
Previous to the roll-out of Chromebooks by NISD this past school year, the IT Team collaborated with the Academy of Media Arts and Technology to create a music and intro video to the Chromebook to answer questions for students and parents. I created the instructional portion of this video, as well as contributed to the music video. I also helped the Director and Coordinator of Instructional Technology to create the assessment portions of the Chromebook Academy course in Moodle as an educational resource.
All these processes helped to increase education and awareness of the new device before it was delivered to students, allowing time for people to prepare and ask questions prior to its arrival. This helped support the NISD long range technology plan as well as directly support student learning.
As part of the IT Team's ongoing dedication to Digital Citizenship in our schools, we were responsible for updating and creating the Digital Citizenship courses for this past school year and future years. Utilizing resources from Common Sense Media as well as some original content, I was responsible for writing lessons on "Cyberbullying & Digital Drama" and "Creative Copyright" for the course. The document to the left is the evidence of learning that students were to submit following the lesson on Creative Copyright.
The Coordinator must understand the need for Digital Citizenship and be an active part in the creation and documentation of Digital Citizenship courses and course completion across the district.
When the district enabled YouTube Restricted mode on all devices connected through the district's network, there was some initial confusion among teachers and students. I created this video as a resource that was sent out to the district and posted on our 1:World YouTube channel in order to explain how to correctly navigate YouTube restricted mode.
Throughout the course of a standard school year, there will be times when resources are needed, sometimes unexpectedly. These resources will need to be made quickly but also maintain a level of professionalism and polish that showcases our district in a positive light. The IT Coordinator will need the ability to create and deliver these resources if necessary.
This is an online resource that covers multiple digital literacy topics:
Why Digital Literacy Is Important
Top 11 Myths About Digital Literacy
Real Life Examples of Digitally-Literate Classrooms
Digital Literacy Resource List
Skills and Tools for Digitall-Literate Teachers
I contributed to this resource through interviews and submission of digitally literate classroom examples from our district Making IT Click Blog. After connecting with the author on Twitter, we discussed digital literacy and I shared my expertise as a teacher and instructional technologist.
This Smore was part of a presentation I did for 1:World Conference when I was still teaching chemistry. I created the Smore and the accompanying YouTube video to post on our district Moodle training pages. The Smore and video both go over how to navigate quiz settings, create your own quiz, and thoroughly explains how to create embedded Cloze questions.
This is a great example of a resource that directly effects instruction in the classroom and in the digital environment. Teaching educators how to use digital tools such as Moodle quizzes and Cloze questions is vital for providing students with more choices and opportunities to experience differentiated instruction in the classroom through the use of our district's learning management system.
