Claiming Service Support Costs

Service Support Costs are claimed through the submission of the online



The form can be submitted as many times as you require and we encourage you to complete this on a regular basis or as required as per your sites activities.

Please only submit SSC request for new activity since 1st April 2021 and ensure you have claimed all SSC by the end of the current financial year.


What Activities Can be Claimed For and What Information is Required For Each Activity? (Click the arrow to the right to find out)

Service Support Costs are the additional patient care costs associated with the research, which would end once the Research Study in question had stopped, even if the patient care involved continued to be provided.

This therefore means the following Activities for each NIHR Non- Commercial study can be claimed via the online claim form:

*Please note: Individual Service Support Cost Information is listed for each study on the Open or Closed Study Section of the CRN EM Primary Care Research Website- this will detail the exact Service Support Activities you will be paid for in regards to each individual study and the corresponding amount you should expect to receive. Payments will made as per the study information listed on the website.


No information required from your site. Recruitment figures are taken from the national research Open Data Platform, which are uploaded / verified by each Study Team, and therefore you will be paid in accordance with this.


You are required to input the Date the search was completed.


You are required to input the Date the Screening of the Database Search List was completed.


You are required to input the Date the Mailout / Text Messages to potential participants was completed and the Number of potential participants who were sent a Mailout or Text Message.

As some studies require multiple Mailout / Text Messages to be sent you can input data for up to 3 completed Mailout/Text Messages all together.


No information required, we just ask you simply confirm that the this activity has taken place at your site. Recruitment figures are taken from the national research Open Data Platform, which are uploaded / verified by each Study Team, and therefore you will be paid in accordance with this.


Sometimes there will be additional activities that will be paid as a Service Support Cost to sites. Please Refer to Individual Study Information Found on the CRN EM Primary Care Research Website where required.
