‘Provide better health and care through more inclusive research’.

RESOURCES TO SUPPORT MORE INCLUSIVE RESEARCH

The Centre for Ethnic Health Research (CEHR) works to address inequalities, associated with ethnicity, in health care access and health outcomes. We do this by supporting individuals and organisations to involve and understand the needs of ethnic minority and underserved communities when planning and undertaking research and healthcare delivery.

RESOURCES TO SUPPORT ENGAGEMENT WITH ETHNIC MINORITIES / UNDERSERVED COMMUNITIES

The National Institute for Health and Care Research (NIHR) is the world’s first health research funder to publish comprehensive accounts of its funded research within its own publicly and permanently available journals.

Nottingham City Underserved Community Engagement Toolkit

We must ensure more underserved communities are included so that research meets the needs of the whole population. Unfortunately, areas in the UK with the highest burden of disease also have the lowest number of patients taking part in research (Darko, 2023). There is a risk that results may not be relevant for those populations most in need. Inclusive research is crucial to reducing health inequalities and ensuring equitable access and outcomes in healthcare.
