Living and Non Living Schoolyard Observation

1st Graders have been learning about Living and Non Living things in Science. We read What's Alive? by Kathleen Weidner Zoehfeld and a Living and Non Living article on PebbleGo. We learned about the following characteristics of Living Things:

• Need energy
• Need air
• Need water
• Can move and react on their own
• Reproduce - make more of their own kind
• Grow and change - have a life cycle

We explored our very own Schoolyard to find Living and Non Living things. Some Living things 1st Graders found were worms, ants, people, trees, and moss. Some Non Living things 1st Graders found were buttons, cars, fences, rocks, and the gazebo.
