CAS Presents: Kemp Harris

On Friday, November 30th, Storyteller Kemp Harris visited the 1st Grade. Kemp is a composer, musician, children's author, actor, and teacher. Kemp began his presentation with a story about Anansi, the spider. In the story, Anansi discovers a strange, moss-covered rock in the forest that has some interesting magical capabilities. Anansi uses its magic to trick Lion, Elephant, Giraffe. A little Deer has been watching Anansi and his tricks the whole time and will not be fooled. The Deer uses the rock to teach Anansi a lesson. Ask your child how the Deer tricks Anansi. Kemp also led the children in an upbeat version of The 5 Little Monkeys. Kemp told a story about a little boy who has a difficult time going to sleep. Just because the little boy is invited to his first sleepover doesn't mean he will have an easy time falling asleep even with a special, Spanish lullaby. Ask your child about how the little boy does finally go to sleep. Kemp also shared his first published children's book and song, "Snow."
