Dear Reader,

Although I normally separate my writing--particularly my non-fiction writing--from the pages of New Myths, I feel so strongly about censorship that I am providing a link to an article I wrote. The California Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals has just handed a victory to free speech by reinstating a cattleman onto a local steering committee after she was removed for what the court called "viewpoint discrimination" that was "particularly odious in nature." Read the full story 'Attempt to Muzzle Cattlemen fails' at Western Ag Reporter. You may have to sign up for a non-binding two-month account to read the whole thing. I feel that all of us as Americans have a duty to fight censorship no matter what its form and no matter who might benefit from it--even our own party or candidate.

Our assistant editor, Victory Crayne, has just published a wonderful article entitled Crayne Business Model for Book Writers on the new realities of publishing. I suggest all aspiring writers check it out.

I can attest that Victory is one of the best freelance editors in the business. She doesn't mince words and she'll only take on projects on which she has experience and expertise. Her web site is http://www.crayne.com/

I had intended to write a great editorial for this, the two year anniversary issue of New Myths--and I did. It will be published in the January 1, 2010 issue of Golden Visions, the print edition of a fine fantasy and science fiction magazine by my friend Christine Golden. I recommend that everyone pick up a copy for some of the best, positive speculative fiction on the market. You can find the online version athttp://www.goldenvisionsmagazine.biz/, but do consider buying the print edition.

Many thanks to all the writers, artists and readers who have made New Myths a success. And a special thanks to the volunteers: Sheila Murdock, Susie Hawes and, when he's not hunting snipes, Bob Sojka, without whom I would go bananas.

Enjoy,

Scott T. Barnes, Editor
