NewMyths.com

A quarterly ezine by a community of writers, poets and artists.

Issue 6, March 1, 2009

Dear Reader,

Just in: I've been informed of an online award for best online story called the Million Writer's Award. If you really enjoy any of the stories in this or past issues, please nominate them.

This quarter I'm excited to announce a partnership with New Myths Stuff, a sister site run by a friend I've had since we went to kindergarten together at Spencer Valley School, with K-8 all in a single room with one teacher, the indomitable Mrs. Stanley, and her assistant Laura-Lee Marcy. Hail to the world's greatest teacher!

New Myths Stuff at www.newmythsstuff.com will sell books recommended by our contributors as a way to help finance this little e-zine. If any of the titles there strikes your fancy, I urge you to buy it through New Myths Stuff. Not only do you get the same price and terms as through Amazon, but you also contribute to keeping the Sci-Fi and Fantasy short fiction market alive and well. There are only a few titles to choose from for now, but we'll be adding all the time.

There is a second reason to visit New Myths Stuff that I'm particularly proud of: the Excerpt Game. I've entered over 300 first paragraphs and excerpts from some of the century's best and worst novels. You get to read and rate them one through five, then see what the average rating is, and then move on to the next one. It is a great way to pass a few minutes entertaining your cerebrum. Later we'll add the ability for you to log in and remember the best and worst of what you rated. Not only is this a lot of fun, it teaches you how the pros get the reader hooked from the beginning. Or not.

Finally, let me recommend to all you aspiring fantasy, sci-fi and horror writers to apply to the Odyssey Writing Workshop, definitely the best writing experience of my life. Find it here.

We have some great fiction, poetry and non-fiction this issue. Enjoy.

Enjoy,

Scott T. Barnes, Editor
