Siegfried History

Siegfried's Origins

The Hall of Champions was donated by Robert M. Siegfried ('37, founder of the NORDAM aerospace company) and Raymond H. Siegfried II ('65) of Tulsa, Oklahoma. It was built on Mod Quad in 1988 to house women. These women called themselves the Slammers before they were moved to the newly constructed Welsh Family Hall on West Quad when Flanner and Grace Halls were converted to office space in 1997. The new inhabitants of Siegfried called themselves the Ramblers - a tribute to the original name for Notre Dame's athletic teams. Our Viking image is partially inspired by Siegfried, a Viking warrior in Richard Wagner's operatic movement "Ride of the Valkyries".

Flanner Cup

As both Knott and Siegfried Halls originated from Flanner Hall, the brother dorms engage in a friendly annual competition for the Flanner Cup. The victors earn naming rights to the land between our dorms. We have claimed the competition, and named the land "Siegfried Slope," 11 out of the last 18 years.

Notable Siegfried Alumni

Some notable Rambler graduates include Justin Tuck '05, New York Giants defensive end; Jeff Faine '03, New Orleans Saints offensive lineman; Sean Mahan '03, Pittsburgh Steelers offensive lineman; Katryna Gaither '97, Minnesota Lynx center.

Rector History

Fr. John Conley, C.S.C.

1st Siegfried Rector (1998-2019)

Known for his competitive spirit and love for all things Siegfried, Fr. John Conley was the rector of Siegfried Hall from the time that it transitioned into a men's residence hall in 1998 until 2019. Under Father John's leadership, Siegfried became an interhall-sports powerhouse, winning ten O'Leary Cup championships, including five straight and ten out of the last twelve. Not only that, but Siegfried's marquee fundraising event, Day of Man, has taken off under Father John. While the event is primarily student-run, Father John continued to offer his full support during his tenure as rector, and saw his Ramblers raise over $100,000 during his time as Rector.

Fr. Joe Pedersen, C.S.C.

2nd Siegfried Rector (2019-2023)

New to the Siegfried family, we have no doubt that Mr. Joe Pederson will carry on Siegfried's legacy of dominance, both in athletics and in service.
