Many of the radios employed in AERPAW offer a standard networking interface to the networking stack. As such, the Experimenter could use any type of traffic generation desired. A this time, AERPAW offers two standard traffic generation tools, namely ping, iperf, and MGEN. In the future, as the demand dictates, we could offer other traffic generation options.
The traffic generated (and for iperf also terminated) passes through the radios (as shown in the development mode overview page) and in development mode it then passes through the channel emulator, while in testbed mode it passes through the front end of the radios and propagates as electromagnetic waves.Â
Depending on the type of traffic generator the Experimenter may have to setup corresponding client-server pairs (e.g., iPerf UDP client paired with an iPerf UDP server).
