Copilot
Copilot is an AI-powered assistant created by Microsoft. It is designed to enhance productivity and streamline workflows, and is essentially an AI companion that can help you navigate various tasks, from writing emails and summarizing information to creating images and generating code. Below are resources and guides to some of the functions you may encounter while using Copilot.
⚠︎ DISCLAIMER ⚠︎ Policy on AI and its utilization in academic work varies depending on course. Please contact your instructor for permission and more information.
You can access Copilot through Microsoft 365 Apps, including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook, or by heading to https://copilot.microsoft.com/chats/Dz4WwN9f8kLSUkyce8hLh.
When using Copilot through your Nazareth account, your work is Enterprise-Data Protected. This means Copilot operates inside Nazareth's Microsoft environment, and any data it processes, such as student information, emails, or course content, stays within that secure system.
Additionally, your data is not used to train the underlying AI model. Unlike consumer AI tools, Copilot’s enterprise version ensures that student records, grades, and confidential documents are never exposed outside our institution. This distinction makes Copilot a safer and more reliable choice for academic and administrative work.
Note: Students should still follow best practices for data security, such as avoiding unnecessary sharing of FERPA-protected information or sensitive personal details, but can feel confident that Copilot respects institutional privacy requirements.
Copilot can be a valuable learning tool when used thoughtfully. It can help you brainstorm ideas, summarize complex readings, organize your schedule, or check the clarity of your writing. However, it’s important to remember that Copilot is not a substitute for your own critical thinking and creativity, it’s a tool to support your learning, not to do the work for you.
When using Copilot, keep these best practices in mind:
━ Follow Course Guidelines: Always check your instructor’s policies on whether and how AI tools are allowed in assignments.
━ Use It As a Starting Point: Let Copilot help you brainstorm or outline, but refine the ideas in your own words.
━ Be Transparent: If you use Copilot to assist with an assignment, acknowledge it just as you would any other resource.
━ Verify Information: AI-generated content may be inaccurate or incomplete; Always double-check facts, citations, and details against reliable sources.
━ Focus on Learning: Remember that assignments are designed to help you grow; If you let Copilot do all the work, you’re missing the chance to build your own skills.
Using Copilot responsibly means balancing efficiency with integrity. Done right, it can help you become more productive while still ensuring the work you submit reflects your knowledge, effort, and voice.
