When we discussed the seven sentence patterns, all the examples are declarative/indicative sentences. This is the default mood of sentences.
a) Declarative/indicative (e.g., I like that cat.)
English sentences can be in three other moods:
b) Interrogative (e.g., Do you like that cat? Which cat do you like?)
c) Imperative (e.g., Be kind to that cat.)
d) Subjunctive (e.g., If I were that cat, I wouldn't be very happy.)
1. What are interrogative sentences?
Questions are asked through interrogative sentences. There are two types of interrogative sentences depending on the kind of answers they require. Look at the two examples below:
1) A: " Do you like pizza?" 2) A: "Which pizza do you like"
B: "Yes "(or "No".) B: "I like Tuscan chicken."
Question 1) is called a yes/no question; and Question 2) an information question.
