"This, these, that, those" are called demonstrative adjectives when they specify nouns.
Singular Plural e.g.,
Near this these this evening; these evenings
Far that those that evening' those evenings
Notes:
1). Which demonstrative adjective one chooses not only signifies the physical distance but also emotional distance one puts between him/herself and those whom one talks about.
e.g., You know, those on the second floor.
2). "This, these, that, those" can also be demonstrative pronouns when they function as pronouns to replace nouns. Their referent is determined by the context. For example:
Put that on.
- Do they like these?
- I like those better.
