Some verbs have multiple valency patterns:
Some verbs can have multiple valency patterns. Which valency pattern a word belongs is dependent on the context and needs to be analyzed case-by-case..
Example:
Let's eat. (IT)
Let's eat dinner. (MT)
Ex 8.3 (p.217)
Ex 8.2 (p.216)
Note:
1) The verb 'hung' cannot be followed by a DO (direct object); therefore, it is intransitive.
2) The PP (out front) can be either an optional adverbial specifying where the pink balloons hung or a PNM modifying the antecedent 'mailbox'.
