6.2 Basic Clause Patterns
We have learned that sentences have binary structures. The subject slot is usually filled in by an NP. The predicate slot is always filled in by an LVP. The LVP part carries new information. It can be as short as containing a single verb or as long as containing three obligatory components to express complex relationships. In the next two lessons, we are going to focus on the structure of the LVP to analyze its constitutes.
