Mission & Goals

Our Mission

The mission of the Nashoba Regional School District is to educate all students to their fullest potential in a safe, caring environment to become critical, creative, reflective thinkers and positive contributors to the global community. At the core of the English Learner Education Program is the aim to provide English learners with an education that will allow them to achieve their full potential.

English learners come from a wide variety of linguistic, cultural, socioeconomic and educational backgrounds. They are broadly defined as students in the process of acquiring linguistic competence in English, a competence they will continue to develop throughout their lifetimes. The mission of the ELE Program is to build on the linguistic, cultural, and academic knowledge English learners already possess by developing instructional and administrative practices responsive to their linguistic and cultural needs; by promoting access to curricular and extra-curricular opportunities; and by preparing English learners for their future goals.

Our Goals

The goals of the Nashoba English Learner Education Program are:

  • to develop and promote effective identification and evaluation practices for English learners.
  • to provide direct instruction in English language development (ELD) to English learners in alignment with DESE and WIDA benchmarks and standards.
  • to consult with teachers and administrators as they develop instructional, assessment, and administrative practices that are responsive to the linguistic and cultural needs of English learners in the district.
  • to monitor and track the academic progress of English Learner (EL) and Former English Learner (FEL) students in the district.
  • to help promote meaningful inclusion of multilingual and English learner families in the school community (regardless of whether their children are included in the ELE Program), including translating and/or adapting important school information when necessary.
