Translation Requests

Translation for Meetings

In some cases, a live interpreter must be present to facilitate oral communication between a family and school staff. It should be noted that many children who are themselves proficient in English live in homes where English is not spoken and their parents or guardians are not proficient in English. Families who require interpretation assistance will indicate their request on the Home Language Survey, and this information should be entered into PowerSchool by administrative assistants for quick reference.

To find out if translation is needed, go to a student's PowerSchool page. Then go to Custom Screens and select Limited English Proficiency Data. Translation requests appear on this page.

When schedules permit, Monica Flores can be contacted to interpret in Spanish and Erin DaSilvaneto can be contacted to interpret in Portuguese. Professional translators will be used as needed. Guidelines for communication through an interpreter can be found here.

It is the legal right of English learners, and multilingual family members, to have an interpreter present at important school meetings.
