This page details the SMCCCD Sustainability Team's current projects, updated on a quarterly basis.
It’s been an exciting winter at the SMCCCD Sustainability Department!
We are thrilled to share that we have been recognized for the District community's commitment to sustainability!
1. California Board of Governors Award for our work on creating the Sustainability Career Center. The center uses the Museum of Tomorrow model to empower students to develop trade skills while building climate related interactive exhibits.
2. The Green CA Schools & Higher Education also recognized SMCCCD for our sustainability efforts including switching to 100% clean electricity and establishing the Sustainability Career Center!
3. SMCCCD has been honored with a 2025 Sustainability Award from Sustainable San Mateo County! We’re proud to be recognized for our commitment to sustainability, from clean energy and zero waste initiatives to hands-on student engagement.
The Susty team rolled out new battery collection bins in the bookstores on each campus! Batteries are hazardous waste and should never be put in the landfill, recycling, or compost and now it's easier than ever for staff and students to dispose of them correctly.
SMCCCD is excited to continue our work with CLEAResult on strategic energy management. Based on their guidance we can increase energy efficiency to save money and the planet! Their engineers came out to visit CSM and Skyline this quarter.
Alternative commutes reduce greenhouse gas emissions. Using public transit and/or the free campus shuttles are a great way to get to class!
The free CSM Shuttle runs with hourly pick-ups and drop-offs between the Millbrae BART/Caltrain Station and CSM Monday through Friday from 7:10 am – 2:15 pm.
The Skyline College Shuttle runs every hour from 7:25AM to 6:44PM, Monday - Friday between the Daly City BART station and campus.
Watch the Susty team's commute to CSM on the shuttle!
